Sky increase channel numbers for Sky Go on iPhone and iPad

Users of BSkyB’s Sky Go app in the UK can now watch even more of their favourite TV shows on the move.

This week Sky have added Sky 1, Sky Living and more to the current channel list. I have taken a screenshot using my iPhone 4 below:

I’ve loved the app for both my iPad and iPhone since they launched and the quality is really great!

Plus I do also like the plethora of Movies to watch On Demand via Sky’s Anytime+ facility.

All in all, a nice little update to bring the mobile apps in line with the desktop version.

Can’t get Broadband where you live? There is a Solution!

It seems unbelievable that in the 21st century, we still don’t have a decent broadband connection in every home, but we don’t and for many out there, their is only one option………..a dongle.

Well, there is a solution, and being honest it’s not a new one, but it has been a prohibitive option in the past based on the monthly costs and that is Satellite Broadband.

I know of this website due to work and I think its a great product and it seems rather reasonable in terms of cost.

The basics seem to be that you can get 10 meg down and up to 4 meg up, which isn’t too shabby, and after having a good look round the site, the basic costs start from £24.99 a month, which is far far cheaper than just a few years ago. Back then you were talking more like £100 a month minimum.

This is the banner for the site, if you want to have a look at this site the address is www.igloobroadband.co.uk

As I said, it seems like a reasonable solution to  a problem which is all too real for many still in the UK.

Are Retina displays heading to a mac anytime soon?

Apple’s latest update for OS X Lion contains a few nice little surprises in the form of new mouse cursors. But it’s design or newness of the cursors that’s interesting – it’s the fact that they’re designed in high-definition.

As John Gruber points out, these new high resolution cursors, coupled with reports that some Mac Minis reportedly booted into HiDPI mode after installing the 10.7.3 update, could suggest that Apple is preparing to release HiDPI “Retina” level Macs or displays in the near future.

…combined with the fact that some people with Mac Minis connected to TVs via HDMI are reporting that after upgrading to 10.7.3, their system rebooted in HiDPI mode, I can’t help but wonder whether we may be on the cusp of Apple releasing HiDPI Mac displays and/or HiDPI MacBooks. I.e.: retina display Macs.

So what’s the big deal? HiDPI would bring resolution independence to the Mac. This means that items on the screen stay the same size no matter how high the resolution of your screen is. By combining this with high definition images, you get a very sharp and crisp viewing experience in which you cannot discern between individual pixels.

Gruber admits that this may all be nothing more than wishful thinking, but considering that Gruber is extremely well-connected to goings-on at Apple, I suspect there may be a bit more to it than that. Considering that Apple’s entire Mac lineup is due for a refresh this year, 2012 could become a very exciting year for the Mac.
